solid-phase dynamic-extraction (in preparation)

The extracts obtained from the sample preparation are measured and evaluated on the Saturn 2000 (GC-MS/MS). In particular, the MS/MS mode improves the display sensitivity (by reducing the disturbing background) in combination with the temperature and pressure-programmed injector.

Chloride/alkyl phenols

We determine these substances in water and soil samples to DIN 38407 part 15 by means of GC-MS-NCI. The determination thresholds are under 10 µg/kg or 10 ng/l. The sample preparation contains an extractive derivatisation with subsequent column chromatographic treatment.

Octyl and nonyl phenol

These aklyl phenols used as stabilisers in plastics migrate into watery phases and can be proven there in contents of µg/l. To determine them, we use a validated method (immersion SPME with GC/MS/MS, fully automated).

The determination threshold is in the area of our laboratory blind figure for tap water, at 50 ng techn. nonyl phenol/l.

MOH (mineral oil hydrocarbons)

After successful implementation of three projects for gas chromatography determination of MOH in water and soil, we are now also offering this service. The determination in water samples is done by means of SPME-GC-MS, with determination thresholds of 0.1 mg/l for diesel and <<0.01 mg/l for individual aliphates.

The determination of the MOH in soil samples is done on the basis of ISO/TR 11046. The soil samples are extracted with petrol ether, the extracts are treated and subsequently measured on a GC-MS or GC-FID. External quantifications are done against suitable comparative mixtures.

Nitro-musk compounds

Nitro-musk compounds are widely used as odoriferous substances for cosmetic products and detergents. They are highly persistant and can be found in any environmental compartment. Therefore great efforts are done to replace these compounds by those mentioned under position 19.Using the same clean-up (refer to pos. 1) and an additional detection system nitro-musk compounds can be determined within the screening analysis..

Moschus-Xylol

Moschus-Ambrette

Poly-cyclic musk compounds

Poly-cyclic musk compounds are persistant too. They accumulate in biological matrices and were found in surface water and fatty foods. Using the same clean-up (refer to pos. 1) and an additional detection system nitro-musk compounds can be determined within the screening analysis.

ITX - Isopropylthioxanthone

ITX is used as photoinitiator for the offset printing of lables and packaging materials. Trace were detected in baby-milk in november 2005. In four European countries such products were taken from the market.

SOFIA GmbH has implemented the analytical method to determine ITX in packagings and foods.

New method for morpholine detection in fruit

Fruits, especially apples and citrus fruits, are frequently treated with wax emulsions to provide longer shelf life and a more attractive look. Some of the formulations use emulsifiers that contain the chemical morpholine. The use of morpholine in those formulations is permitted in the US but in the European Community it is not.

In September 2010 the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) published unauthorised amounts of morpholine in apples. SOFIA GmbH developed a new method for the detection of morpholine in fruits.

This test is also available as EXPRESS analysis.

Detection of Epigallocatechin and Epigallocatechingallat in Tea

(-)-Epigallocatechin and (-)-Epigallocatechingallat belong to the group of polyphenols. They are common for e. g. in tea and because their positive effect they are popular in health matters.

Recently, we are able to detect (-)-Epigallocatechin and (-)-Epigallocatechingallat at the same time as Catechin (+), Epicatechin (+), Caffeine and Theobromin in tea matrix.
